Update on UAE Emiratization Deadline for Private Sector

June 13, 2023 - Authors : Patrick Obeid

The mid-year Emiratization deadline has been extended by an additional week due to the Eid Al Adha holiday. Today, officials announced that the new deadline to meet the target will be July 7, 2023, instead of June 30, 2023. The half-year target for the private sector is to have 1 percent of the workforce filled by Emirati employees.

The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratization has confirmed in a circular that companies failing to meet the deadline will face a fine of Dh42,000 for each Emirati role that remains unfilled on July 8, 2023.

The UAE Government has issued rules regarding Emiratization in the private sector, known as the “2% Emiratization Law,” which aims to increase the Emiratization of skilled jobs by implementing a minimum annual quota of 2 percent. The goal is to achieve a 10 percent increase in the UAE skilled workforce by 2026 and create a minimum of around 12,000 jobs annually for UAE skilled workers.
